Fishing Conchas Lake
Conchas is a well-rounded warmwater fishery: largemouth and smallmouth bass on the rocky points and bluffs, schooling white bass, walleye in the deeper water, plus channel catfish, crappie and bluegill. A New Mexico fishing license is required. The lake’s long canyon arms, rocky structure and the river inflows give anglers plenty of water to work, and the warm climate makes for a long fishing season.
The state park and recreation
Conchas Lake State Park wraps the reservoir with campgrounds (at the North and South Dock areas), a marina, boat ramps, a swimming beach and a lodge, supporting boating, water sports, swimming and fishing. The big open water suits powerboating and sailing, while the quiet canyon arms reward anglers and paddlers. With its red bluffs, clear water and wide skies, Conchas is a striking spot far from city lights.

Conchas Lake is northwest of Tucumcari in northeast New Mexico, off NM-104, about 30 miles from Tucumcari and a 2.5-hour drive east of Santa Fe. The Route 66 town of Tucumcari and the high-plains ranch country surround it.
